Féile na Gréine: the Solstice Arts Festival

 

  • Following on the success of Féile na Gréine in 2007 plans are underway for this year's festival which promises to be a great draw.
  • Concerts will include guitarist Agustín Maruri from Spain, harpists/singers Kathleen Dineen and Catherine Rhatigan based in Switzerland. British actor, Peter Marinker, musicians Máire Breatnach (fiddle) and friends.
  • Dónal O'Kelly's play "Running Beast" depicting the story of Red Hugh O' Neill will be staged on Monday 23rd followed by the St. John's Eve bonfire, with a céilí - music by the popular Ardú.
  • Poets Bernard O'Donoghue, Pat Boran will be joined by Scottish Gaelic poet Aonghus Mac Neacaill.
  • There will be a wide range of workshops again this year including painting on silk, landscape painting, digital photography,
    glass painting, black and white photograhy including darkroom skills, salsa, poetry and traditional singing.
  • A centre piece of this year's festival will be a new, specially commissioned dance celebrating the solstice - the longest day of the year. The dance, involving a unique fusion of contemporary and traditional dance is being composed and choreographed by Co. Kerry Dancer in Residence, Catherine Young.
  • There will be street theatre and entertainment for children on Saturday and Sunday with Na Formhóraigh on Saturday and The Killarney KDYS Circus School with The Fanzini Brothers on Sunday.
