Féile na Gréine: the Amergin Solstice Festival

Again, in 2009, thanks to the continued support
of the Arts Council, Colmcille, Poetry Ireland,
Foras na Gaeilge, Kerry Education Service
and Kerry County Council, the summer solstice
will be celebrated at Féile na Gréine, an arts
festival like no other.

Starting on Sunday 21st June, Midsummer Day
(the solar calendar doesn’t recognize weekends!), and finishing with a traditional bonfire on St. John’s Eve, 23rd June, Féile na Gréine will celebrate midsummer with theatre, music, poetry, visual arts, film, circus and workshops.

Waterville, on the Ring of Kerry among some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery, with direct access to mountains, lakes and sea, is an ideal location for this festival. And Tech Amergin, the purpose-built arts centre with the intimate atmosphere, is the ideal venue.

This year’s programme will include

  • A public interview by Vincent Woods
(The Arts Show RTE) with photographer
    John Minihan
. John will also show his exhibition of Irish literary figures.

  • nal O’Kelly’s acclaimed play 'The Cambria'.

  • Barry Mc Govern in an evening's entertainment with Ishbel McAskill and
    Janet Harbison .

  • Readings by poets Vincent Woods,
Cathal Ó Searcaigh, John Mc Namee, Micheál Ó hUanacháin, Paddy Bushe,
    Meg Bateman
    and Gabriel Fitzmaurice.

  •  Kila in concert.

  • Music at the bonfire with Ardú and members of Kila.
